Love Debunked (Part 3)

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:37–39

Let's begin by illustrating who you are, in parts: you are a spirit, who has a soul, and who lives in a body. Your soul is divided into three parts — mind, will, and emotions.

When a person receives the Holy Spirit by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, in the blink of an eye, the Kingdom of God comes to reside within. You are not who you were — you become a new creation in Christ Jesus.

When Jesus says to love God with 'all' your heart, soul, and mind, that word 'all' means giving your whole, full, and complete self. Nothing held back. Everything surrendered.

James 2:8 puts it this way: 'If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.' This means it isn't you, in your own strength, loving others — because you already gave all of yourself to God. What flows out from there is His love working through you.

That is unconditional love — agape. The prefix 'un' means not conditional: regardless, absolute, with no limitations, not required. It is love with nothing attached.
